What appeared to be a successful battle for Israel, became a nightmare for Achan and his family. During the battle of Jericho, he coveted, stole, and then lied about the items he had confiscated during the battle. He, his family, and animals were all stoned until they died––his belongings were burned. Because of Achan, Israel lost the battle against Ai. God wants everyone to be righteous.
